1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Delivery:
- Deliver products in original, unopened containers with labels intact
- Verify containers are sealed and undamaged
B. Storage:

- Protect from moisture, direct sunlight, and freezing temperatures
- Storage temperature range: 40°F to 90°F (4°C to 32°C)
- Elevate materials off ground on pallets

1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Environmental Requirements:
- Ambient air temperature: 45°F to 100°F (7°C to 38°C)

- Relative humidity: Less than 90%
- Do not apply when rain is expected within 24 hours
- Do not apply when substrate is wet or damp
- Protect work from rain for minimum 24 hours after application
B. Substrate Conditions:
- Substrate must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants
- Plywood must be structural grade, minimum 5/8" thick
- Maximum moisture content: 19% by weight
- Substrate must be structurally sound and properly sloped for drainage (minimum 1/4" per foot)
1.8 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Deck Coating Products, Inc. (Deck Flex) provides a 10-year product warranty when system is installed by qualified applicator in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. Warranty covers materials against defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service conditions.
B. Installer's Warranty: Provide workmanship warranty for period specified in contract documents.
C. Warranty Conditions:
- System must be installed by applicator with minimum 5 years experience
- Installation must comply with manufacturer's published specifications
- Substrate must be properly prepared and meet manufacturer's requirements
- Regular maintenance must be performed as recommended by manufacturer

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify Substrate Conditions:
- Substrate is clean, dry, and free of contaminants
- Plywood is structural grade, minimum 5/8" thick
- All fasteners are flush or countersunk
- Joints and cracks are properly prepared
- Substrate is properly sloped for drainage
- Substrate moisture content does not exceed 19% by weight
B. Do Not Proceed: Do not begin installation until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean Substrate:
- Remove all dirt, dust, oil, grease, and loose materials
- Ensure surface is dry before proceeding
B. Repair Defects:
- Fill cracks, voids, and surface irregularities with patching compound
- Allow repairs to cure before proceeding
- Countersink or remove protruding fasteners
C. Install Flashing:
- Install perimeter and wall flashing as detailed in drawings
- Secure flashing with appropriate fasteners
- Seal all joints and terminations
3.3 INSTALLATION - DECK FLEX W.M. WALKING DECK AND ROOF COVERING SYSTEM
A. Metal Lath Installation:
- Fasten metal lath to plywood substrate using No. 16 gauge staples, 1" crown, 5/8" long legs
- Install staples at density of 22-24 staples per square foot
- Overlap adjacent lath sheets minimum 1/2 inch
- Ensure lath is flat and in full contact with substrate
- Cut lath to fit around penetrations and at perimeters
B. Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) Application (Troweled Base):
- Mix 45-50 lbs of Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) (1 bag) with 1 gallon of TetraCrete Additive
- Mix thoroughly to achieve uniform, lump-free consistency
- Apply over metal lath using trowel
- Coverage: Maximum 50 square feet per mix (45-50 lbs Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) + 1 gallon additive)
- Ensure complete coverage and embedment of metal lath
- Work time: Use mixed material within manufacturer's specified pot life
- Allow to cure minimum 24 hours before next layer
C. Fiberglass Membrane Installation:
- Apply fiberglass while Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) is still wet (within 30 minutes of application)
- Unroll fiberglass over wet Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey)
- Overlap seams minimum 2 inches
- Embed fiberglass into Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) using trowel or roller
- Ensure complete saturation and no air pockets
- Remove wrinkles and ensure flat, smooth surface
D. Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #2 (White) Application (Sprayed Texture Coat):
- Allow Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) and fiberglass to cure minimum 24 hours
- Mix one bag of Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #2 (White) with 1 gallon of TetraCrete Additive
- Mix thoroughly to achieve sprayable consistency
- Apply using approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 90-100 square feet per gallon when spray applied
- Apply in uniform coat to completely cover fiberglass
- Allow to cure minimum 24 hours before next coat
E. Base Coat Application:
- Allow TetraCrete layers to fully cure (minimum 24 hours per layer)
- Stir Base Coat thoroughly before use
- Apply using brush, roller, or approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 60-75 square feet per gallon
- Dry Thickness: 1/16 inch
- Apply in uniform coat ensuring complete coverage
- Allow to dry per manufacturer's specifications (typically 4-6 hours) before topcoat application
F. Top Coat Application:
- Stir Top Coat thoroughly before use
- Apply first coat using brush, roller, or approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 150-180 square feet per gallon total for both coats
- Allow first coat to dry per manufacturer's specifications (typically 4-6 hours)
- Apply second coat perpendicular to first coat for uniform coverage
- Maintain wet edge during application
- Final texture should be uniform and slip-resistant
- Protect from traffic and moisture for minimum 24 hours
3.4 FLASHING INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL)
A. Edge Flashing:
- Install edge flashing at exposed deck perimeters
- Secure flashing to substrate with appropriate fasteners
- Overlap joints minimum 6 inches
- Seal all joints and fasteners
- Integrate flashing with waterproofing system layers
B. Deck-to-Wall Flashing:
- Install at all deck-to-wall intersections
- Extend flashing minimum 4 inches up wall and 4 inches onto deck surface
- Fasten securely to wall and substrate
- Seal top edge with appropriate sealant
- Integrate with waterproofing layers
3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Inspection:
- Inspect each layer before proceeding to next
- Verify complete coverage and proper thickness
- Check for voids, gaps, or defects
- Ensure proper overlap at seams
B. Testing:
- Conduct flood test or spray test after system completion (if specified)
- Observe for leaks for minimum 24 hours
- Document test results
C. Deficiencies:
- Repair defects immediately
- Retest after repairs are complete
- Obtain manufacturer's approval for repair procedures if necessary
3.6 CLEANING
A. During Installation:
- Keep work area clean and organized
- Remove excess materials daily
- Clean tools and equipment immediately after use
B. Final Cleaning:
- Remove all construction debris
- Clean overspray or spills from adjacent surfaces
- Leave site in broom-clean condition
3.7 PROTECTION
A. Curing Period:
- Protect installed system from traffic until fully cured
- Minimum cure time: 24-48 hours for light foot traffic
- Minimum cure time: 7 days for full traffic and furniture
- Protect from rain for minimum 24 hours after final coat

B. Verify Substrate Conditions - Concrete:
- Concrete is fully cured (minimum 28 days)
- Surface is clean per ASTM D4258
- Free of form oils, curing compounds, laitance, and contaminants
- Surface is sound with no spalling or delamination
- Cracks and joints are properly prepared
- Substrate is properly sloped for drainage
- Moisture vapor emission is within acceptable limits
C. Do Not Proceed: Do not begin installation until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Clean Substrate:
- Remove all dirt, dust, oil, grease, and loose materials
- For concrete: Power wash or use appropriate cleaning method per ASTM D4258
- Ensure surface is dry before proceeding
B. Repair Defects:
- Fill cracks, voids, and surface irregularities with patching compound
- Allow repairs to cure before proceeding
- For plywood: Countersink or remove protruding fasteners
- For concrete: Fill bug holes and surface voids
C. Install Flashing:
- Install perimeter and wall flashing as detailed in drawings
- Secure flashing with appropriate fasteners
- Seal all joints and terminations
3.3 INSTALLATION - DECK FLEX W.F. WALKING DECK AND ROOF COVERING SYSTEM
A. Primer Application (Concrete Substrates Only):
- Stir primer thoroughly before use
- Apply using brush, roller, or approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 200 square feet per gallon
- Apply in uniform coat to seal concrete surface
- Allow to dry per manufacturer's specifications (typically 2-4 hours)
- Ensure complete coverage with no holidays (bare spots)
B. Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) Application (Troweled Base):
- Mix one bag of Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) with 1 gallon of TetraCrete Additive
- Mix thoroughly to achieve uniform, lump-free consistency
- Apply using trowel
- Coverage: 200 square feet per bag (W.F. system application rate)
- Apply in thin, uniform coat
- Work time: Use mixed material within manufacturer's specified pot life
C. Fiberglass Membrane Installation:
- Apply fiberglass while Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) is still wet (within 30 minutes of application)
- Unroll fiberglass over wet Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey)
- Overlap seams minimum 2 inches
- Embed fiberglass into Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) using trowel or roller
- Ensure complete saturation and no air pockets
- Remove wrinkles and ensure flat, smooth surface
D. Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #2 (White) Application - Option 1 (Sprayed):
- Allow Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) and fiberglass to cure per manufacturer's specifications
- Mix one bag of Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #2 (White) (Sprayed) with 1 gallon of TetraCrete Additive
- Mix thoroughly to achieve sprayable consistency
- Apply using approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 150 square feet per bag
- Apply in uniform coat to completely cover fiberglass
- Allow to cure per manufacturer's specifications
E. Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #2 (White) Application - Option 2 (Troweled):
- Allow Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #3 (Grey) and fiberglass to cure per manufacturer's specifications
- Mix one bag of Deck Flex TetraCrete TC #2 (White) (Troweled) with 1 gallon of TetraCrete Additive
- Mix thoroughly to achieve trowelable consistency
- Apply using trowel
- Coverage: 50 square feet per bag
- Apply in uniform coat to completely cover fiberglass
- Allow to cure per manufacturer's specifications
F. Base Coat Application:
- Allow TetraCrete layers to fully cure (minimum 24-48 hours depending on conditions)
- Stir Base Coat thoroughly before use
- Apply using brush, roller, or approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 50 square feet per gallon
- Apply in uniform coat
- Allow to dry per manufacturer's specifications before topcoat application
G. Top Coat Application:
- Stir Top Coat thoroughly before use
- Apply first coat using brush, roller, or approved spray equipment
- Coverage: 150 square feet per gallon total for both coats (W.F. system)
- Allow first coat to dry per manufacturer's specifications (typically 4-6 hours)
- Apply second coat perpendicular to first coat for uniform coverage
- Maintain wet edge during application
- Final texture should be uniform and slip-resistant
3.4 FLASHING INSTALLATION (OPTIONAL)
A. Edge Flashing:
- Install edge flashing at exposed deck perimeters
- Secure flashing to substrate with appropriate fasteners
- Overlap joints minimum 6 inches
- Seal all joints and fasteners
- Integrate flashing with waterproofing system layers
B. Deck-to-Wall Flashing:
- Install at all deck-to-wall intersections
- Extend flashing minimum 4 inches up wall and 4 inches onto deck surface
- Fasten securely to wall and substrate
- Seal top edge with appropriate sealant
- Integrate with waterproofing layers
3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Inspection:
- Inspect each layer before proceeding to next
- Verify complete coverage and proper thickness
- Check for voids, gaps, or defects
- Ensure proper overlap at seams
B. Testing:
- Conduct flood test or spray test after system completion (if specified)
- Observe for leaks for minimum 24 hours
- Document test results
C. Deficiencies:
- Repair defects immediately
- Retest after repairs are complete
- Obtain manufacturer's approval for repair procedures if necessary
3.6 CLEANING
A. During Installation:
- Keep work area clean and organized
- Remove excess materials daily
- Clean tools and equipment immediately after use
B. Final Cleaning:
- Remove all construction debris
- Clean overspray or spills from adjacent surfaces
- Leave site in broom-clean condition
3.7 PROTECTION
A. Curing Period:
- Protect installed system from traffic until fully cured
- Minimum cure time: 24-48 hours for light foot traffic
- Minimum cure time: 7 days for full traffic and furniture
- Protect from rain for minimum 24 hours after final coat
B. Final Protection:
- Barricade or mark newly installed areas
- Provide signage warning of wet surfaces
- Prevent damage from subsequent construction activities
- Cover or protect surfaces if necessary during other trades' work
